Before the interview
Plan your journey in advance allowing contingency time for unexpected problems.
Dress appropriately even if the environment you will be working in is casual, make an effort. Smart clothes and personal appearance always make a good first impression.
Prepare answers to standard questions, such as wy you want the job, and also consider answers to the inevitable what are your strengths and weaknesses.
Find out in advance who will be interviewing you and whether there are to be any personality or skills tests.
Refresh your CV and application letter using it to draw on key points to discuss at interview.
At the interview
Do
- Arrive on time if not slightly early
- Research the company in order to display both aptitude and desire for the position.
- Find out as much as possible about the job and why it has become vacant, who you will report to etc.
Do not
- Be late
- Criticise your current or previous employers under any circumstances
- Interrupt the interviewers even if they repeatedly interrupt you.
